Small Great Works
Personal
During the pandemic, families sought activities with kids. Petites Grans Obres (Small Great Works) used a simple game to unite a town, blending art and solidarity to support Sant Joan de Déu Children’s Hospital in Barcelona.

In those long months of lockdown, when days seemed to repeat themselves and plans were scarce, I started working with my daughter on a creative idea to keep us active and connected. That’s how Petites Grans Obres was born: small handmade art pieces, created at home, meant to share a moment together and add a splash of color to such a grey time. What began as a family activity soon became a spark that lit up the imagination of many others.

The streets of Mataró filled with these small great works, hidden like treasures waiting to be discovered. Schools adopted the project as a family activity beyond the classroom, neighbors joined in enthusiastically, and even waiting lists emerged to take part. The City Council supported the initiative, editions multiplied, and the project ended up moving an entire town.

At the heart of the project were the creative kits: families could buy their own kit to design and hide their pieces, with 100% of the proceeds donated to pediatric oncology at Sant Joan de Déu Hospital. What began as a homemade plan turned into a collective movement capable of raising thousands of euros, uniting a city, and proving that creativity, when shared, can also heal.
